The Kitchen Reno: Wood for New Cabinets

Yay! This is the start of the kitchen renovation, okay more so this is the start of the cabinet construction. We spent a fun filled hour at Home Depot getting 5/8” melamine sheets cut so they would fit in our car…or sort of fit.
This is only about half of what we will need (5 sheets) but a) I want to test out my construction method before I buy too much and b) our car wouldn’t fit much more. All this lovely melamine is currently waiting in our living room for me to cut it down to size so it will fit down into our basement.
Also in our front room but hidden under the couch is the red oak we purchased from the Wood Source. These board will be cut down to be the 1 ¾”  face trim on the cabinets. I wanted a hard wood as it will be stronger to support the hinges and drawers as they will get a lot of use.
And now we know: the guy at Depot uses the air compressor to clean the saw dust off himself. Very innovative.
